When Sound Control went into administration last year one of the biggest losses to the music technology industry was Carillon Audio Systems. Carillon created the concept of the audio centric PC and brought Windows based computers into the studio in direct competition to Apple Mac and hardware based recording solutions. We've all benefited from the trail that Carillon blazed through the industry and now we'd like to give something back.

The Carillon AC-1 case is iconic. It's surprisingly small size and elegant styling make it a unique computer chassis and it would be a shame to discard it when upgrading to a new system. Rain have a soft spot for Carillon, Robin Vincent, who heads up the UK operation, was part of the team that created the Carillon AC-1 and ran the technical side of the company back in the glory days of 2000-2005. We know that chassis inside and out, how things fit, what goes where, how to get the best out of the air flow at the lowest noise - there's no one better placed to retrofit a Carillon AC-1.

Rain are now offering an exclusive Carillon Retrofit Service.

We'll clear everything out, install all the latest high performance technology, give you a freshly tweaked install of Windows XP or Vista, we'll even reinstall and set-up your soundcard or audio interface with your main DAW software, and copy across all your music files to the new system so that you can get back to work right out of the box.

What needs to be upgraded?

With Intel systems each new generation of technology brings massive gains in performance and also completely new components. This means that it's unlikely that anything in your existing system would be transferable to a new one. Even the power supply would be unlikely to run the new system as stably as a new, more powerful supply. Hard drive technology has also moved on so your existing drive may prevent you from fully experiencing the increased performance in your new system - it's best to keep that drive as a backup of your existing data. So it's really going to be the whole lot.

Retrofit Packages:

These packages include picking up your system, removing old stuff, installing new stuff, reinstalling your soundcard and DAW software, copying your files to new system, backup and delivery back to you.

Completely New Rain System:

For around the same price you can get a whole new Rain system with cleaner styling, better airflow and noise reduction and more room for expansion. The Element can take up to 6 hard drives or optical drives, can use much bigger and more efficient CPU cooling and even allows overclocking on the Core i7 systems. Sometimes it's worth letting go of the past.

Will the RTM1, RTM2 or RK8 work on the new machine?

That will depend on the age of your system and connection technology used on the controllers - we'll certainly do our best.

Can you install the Loopstation on the new system?

Yes

Can you install the other bits of software that came with my Carillon?

We'll install your main DAW software as part of the deal. Additional software can also be installed but may incur further labour charges.

Can you get me new feet as mine have come off?

Sorry no.

Can you use my existing copy of Windows?

We should be able to transfer your license to the new machine but you may want to consider upgrading to XP Professional or Vista.
